Our minimum hire is 7 days unless otherwise agreed in writing. See section 4.2 of our Terms & Conditions for details.

Drivers must be 25–75 years old with a full, unrestricted licence. International licences are accepted with a valid permit. All drivers must be named on the Rental Agreement.

Yes. You’ll need your full, unrestricted licence and an International Driving Permit if your licence isn’t in English.

Request a quote online and confirm your dates, pick-up and drop-off locations, and number of travellers. Full payment is required before collection.

Our fully equipped 4WD campers include: fridge/freezer, solar panels, electric hot-water shower, James Baroud rooftop tent with internal fan, heavy-duty suspension, long-range fuel & water tanks, dual batteries, on-board air compressor, and complete camping gear.

Tourer & Explorer: 2-person and 5-person 4WD campers options; Adventure: 5-person 4WD campers. Ask us which fit-out best suits your group and trip.

Yes, your rental includes essential bedding, cookware, utensils, table/chairs, and campsite basics so you can travel light.

Yes, our James Baroud rooftop tents include an internal fan.

Yes, all hires include unlimited kilometres.

We offer flexible options across Australia. Our head office is in Perth, with flexibility for Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Broome. Please advise your preferred locations early, availability and any fees are confirmed on your quote.

We’re open 7 days, 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Collections/returns outside standard hours may attract fees, please arrange in advance.

Late returns may be charged at twice the daily hire rate for each day or part thereof.

Yes. A refuelling fee (currently AU$3 per litre) applies if the tank isn’t full on return.

A AU$5,000 security bond is pre-authorised on your credit card for the duration of your rental and is typically returned within 21 days after return/inspection.

Yes. You can choose:

  • Off-Road: AU$59/day; AU$1,000 liability; includes one windscreen replacement, one tyre replacement, one puncture repair, single-vehicle accident cover, and vehicle retrieval/recovery up to AU$5,000.
  • Off-Road +PLUS: AU$79/day; AU$500 liability; includes unlimited windscreen replacements, two tyre replacements and puncture repairs, single-vehicle accident cover, and retrieval/recovery up to AU$5,000.
  • If you don’t purchase a reduction, the default bond is AU$5,000 and does not include windscreen/tyre/puncture/single-vehicle accident/retrieval cover.

Roadside assistance covers inherent mechanical faults at no extra cost. Costs from driver error/negligence (e.g., flat battery from lights left on, lost keys) are chargeable.

Underbody/overhead damage, immersion/saltwater damage, or reckless/negligent use are excluded from cover.

Yes, our vehicles are prepared for off-road use. However, off-road/beach driving must be pre-approved in writing and follow our conditions.

Beach driving requires prior written approval. A 15% surcharge applies for beach use and conditions must be strictly followed to avoid damage.

No deeper than 0.4 metres.

Yes. Prohibited areas include (but aren’t limited to) snow/likely snow areas, flood-prone roads, salt lakes/flats, beaches without written permission, and off-road areas not designated for recreational vehicle use. When in doubt, ask us for written approval before you go.

  • Up to 91 days before trip: Full refund or credit
  • 90–55 days: 10% of hire cost
  • 54–35 days: 30% of hire cost
  • 34–30 days: 50% of hire cost
  • 29–2 days: 90% of hire cost
  • 1 day or less: 100% of hire cost

Yes, however, subject to availability and fees:
Same/extra days: Up to 91 days before hire: no cost; 90–30 days: $75; 29–0 days: $150.
Fewer days (subject to minimum days): Up to 91 days: no cost; 90–30 days: $150; 29–0 days: not permitted.

Cancellations within 24 hours may incur the full rental charge; no refunds for early return.

Notify us within 24 hours (and the police if there’s injury or a third party is at fault). Provide details and cooperate with the claim/investigation.

No, repairs require our written approval and must use authorised providers.

Daily checks of oil, water, and tyre pressures; promptly report issues. Damage from neglecting checks may be chargeable.

A cleaning fee may apply if the vehicle is not returned in clean condition (reasonable wear and tear excepted).

No. Smoking is strictly prohibited in our vehicles.

Child restraints are not provided. You must ensure any children are restrained in accordance with Australian law.

Vehicles are set up for remote touring and include dual batteries and an air compressor; if you need a specific device (e.g., PLB, UHF), please ask at booking.

Vehicles may be fitted with GPS tracking and dashcams for safety and fleet management. Tampering is a breach of the Rental Agreement.

No, our vehicles aren’t suitable for pets.

Towing other vehicles is not permitted. For any towing questions, ask us in writing prior to travel.

Many travellers do, but you must confirm routes in advance and follow our approvals process for off-road/beach segments that may be part of your plan.

Yes, Bivouac Adventures includes unlimited kilometres.

We offer flexible Australia-wide pick-up/drop-off. Availability and any one-way fees are confirmed on your quote (we don’t publish a blanket “no one-way fees” policy like some competitors).

Bivouac publishes clear, off-road-focused liability options with windscreen/tyre/single-vehicle accident/retrieval inclusions (see Liability Reduction page). RedSands and Overlander also offer liability reduction; details vary, compare inclusions and retrieval/single-vehicle coverage carefully.

Bivouac focuses on serious off-grid readiness (James Baroud tents, electric hot-water shower, long-range tanks, dual batteries, air compressor). RedSands’ Wanderer models emphasise enclosed indoor bed/seating and premium fit-outs with strong safety kit. Overlander spans budget-to-premium with rooftop tents through to indoor kitchen/lounge layouts.
